From calm to chaos in 30 seconds

It continually amazes me how quickly things can go from good to complete chaos. Today while I was making dinner that’s exactly what happened.

The car seats were in the garage and Ken had just left to get a new patio set from Home Depot. I popped into the garage to grab a bottle of spaghetti sauce and the kids followed me in like they always do. I took the sauce to the kitchen, put it on the counter and came back to the garage to carrel the kids back into the house. That’s when the chaos started.

In the few seconds that I was gone, Jordan pulled off her diaper and peed all over Devin’s car seat. Meanwhile the meat was getting too brown, the pot of water was boiling and Devin started “singing” in the special way she has that sounds a lot like screaming.

After getting the girls back inside and a diaper back on Jordan, I ran to the kitchen and quickly added the sauce to the very brown meat. I took care of the boiling water and then started tearing apart the car seat to clean it. Meanwhile Jordan was screaming and crying over being ousted from the peed on car seat and Devin continued her earsplitting song. Let’s just say chaos reigned supreme for the next 20 minutes.

I finally rediscovered my brain and turned on the TV for Devin and threw Jordan in her high chair with some food. Minutes later Ken came home to an amazingly calm house and a warm dinner. Lucky guy.

I hate that! The kids are always so calm and happy when Andrew's home and then scream all day while he's at work. Why is that (since they often will only come to me when he's home anyway?!)
